Taft is a city in Central Florida. The population was 18,582 at the 2010 census. Taft is an agricultural trade center, and the world’s largest grapefruit packing plant is located in the city. It was founded by General James H. Pierce in 1889 when he bought land along the newly constructed Florida Southern Railway and named it after his mentor and president of the company, Henry Clay Taft (brother of President William H. Taft).

Taft is home to Lake Region High School and its football team, The Lake Region Rockets; Lakeland Regional Medical Center; Sun ‘n Fun; and Edward Waters College-Taft Campus. Downtown Taft is host to many shops and restaurants, such as Fosters Freeze.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16,794 people, 4,877 households, and 3,559 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,912.7/km² (4,923.5/mi²). There were 5,128 housing units at an average density of 507.6/km² (1,313.3/mi²). The city’s racial makeup was 16.62% White or Caucasian, 82.55% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.14% of the population. Sun ‘n Fun I know for sure that is nearby. I also heard that there are some great restaurants here in Orlando that are Tafts, but I need to find out which ones they are. Taft was founded in 1889 by General James H.
